چکیده
BACKGROUND Salivary duct carcinoma is a rare, aggressive tumor entity first described by Kleinsasser et al in 1968, as a group of malignant salivary gland tumors characterized by duct formation and central necrosis. A case with an unusual localization in the nasal cavity and maxillary sinus is being described in our report. METHODS A 60-year-old patient presented with difficulty of nasal breathing and recurrent episodes of epistaxis from the left nasal cavity over the previous 3 months. On endoscopy, a vulnerable lesion in the left inferior nasal meatus could be seen. Biopsy showed salivary duct carcinoma. Treatment consisted of tumor resection by means of a combined endoscopic-osteoplastic surgical approach to the maxillary sinus, bilateral neck dissection, partial parotidectomy, and adjuvant radiochemotherapy. RESULTS The patient is 6 months after completion of treatment and is free of disease. CONCLUSION As salivary duct carcinoma of the sinonasal tract is extremely rare, no therapeutic standards have been developed and treatment essentially is based upon experience with ductal adenocarcinoma of the salivary glands. Surgery therapy should be radical, aiming at eradicating locoregional disease with the role of adjuvant radiotherapy lying in the management of cases with negative prognostic factors. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. with poor prognosis, rapid growth, distant metastasis, early regional metastasis, and a high rate of recurrence. The parotid gland is the most common site of involvement, and the lungs and the bones are the most common sites of distant metastasis of SDC. Herein, we present a case of SDC of the parotid gland in a 62-year-old male patient with an unusual metastasis to the skin of the primary site...
متن کاملEpithelial-Myoepithelial Carcinoma of the Palate: Report of a Case and Review of the Literatures
Epithelial-myoepithelial carcinoma (EMC) is considered as a rare malignant salivary gland neoplasm with good prognosis, low recurrence rate and rare metastasis. Here we present a case of epithelial-myoepithelial carcinoma in a 42-year-old female with a swelling of 3-year duration in her palate. Histopathologic evaluation of the lesion demonstrated a well-circumscribed, biphasic salivary gland t...
متن کاملCentral Acinic Cell Carcinoma of the Mandible Simulating as Benign Odontogenic Lesion: A Case Report
Centrally occurring salivary gland tumors are rare. Because of a considerable overlap between the clinical and histopathological features, this group of tumors often produces a diagnostic difficulty to the clinicians and oral pathologists. Acinic cell carcinoma (ACC) is an unusual, low-grade, malignant salivary gland tumor that represents approximately 2% of the salivary gland tumors with almos...
متن کاملMetastatic Renal cell Carcinoma Presenting as a clear-cell Tumor in Tongue: A Case Report
Introduction: Metastatic lesions of the oral cavity are extremely rare, accounting for approximately 1% of all malignant oral tumors. The most common primary sources of metastatic tumors in the oral region are, from the most to the least common, the breast, lung, kidney, bone, and colon. Renal cell carcinoma accounts for nearly 3% of all adult malignancies. It usually metastasizes to the lungs,...
